Have you ever thought about what it means to be free? Have you ever been in a prison, either of your own making or perhaps someone else put you there?
I told you about “Fairy Tale Thinking” and how a lot of times we live our lives waiting on someone to rescue us and save us from the bondage that encapsulates our lives. In that blog, I shared how I decided to “rescue myself.” I would no longer be subject to prison and bondage. I would choose to be free in Christ Jesus. Of course, I used to wait on Prince Charming to rescue me, and I told you about that. I was one of those ladies who longed for a love to get me out of the tower I was locked in.
I came to realize that Jesus was my Prince, and He came to set me free, He didn’t want me to live a life of such pain. When you think about the fact Jesus already paid the price for our freedom and we are free, it’s hard to stay in the prison a life of sin wants to keep us in.
In Galatians 4:9, it asks “Why would you want to go back to being a slave of the world. But now after you have known God or rather are known of God, how can you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?”
Jesus has done everything He possible can to set you free. But you have to stand to your feet, shake off the chains and walk in that freedom. It is a choice we each have to make.
Once you have been made free, please don’t become a jailer to enslave others who have not yet discovered freedom in Christ. Sometimes we see others living in the chains of sin and our first response is to bind them up tighter and keep them in bondage.
Jesus said whatever we bind on earth will be bound in Heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven. “Whatever” includes our brothers and sisters who are walking around in chains.
Jesus came to set the captives free and before He left earth to go to Heaven, He turned the job over to us. We now hold the key’s to help set the hurt and broken free. So what are you doing with this prized possession you were given?
Don’t go back to prison once you have been set free, and whatever you do, DO NOT send others to prison or keep them there because of misguided interpretations of the bible.
If you want to know what your job is on earth, it’s really simple. Read the life story of Jesus and then go and do what He did, say what He said and most importantly, Love like He loved. It is all about love. Don’t believe the lies you were told that its anything else!
