Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and you finish their thought because you are in such a hurry? It’s not because what they are saying is not valuable to you, you just know what they are going to say so you help them out a little bit. We’ve all done it, right? Well I learned that there are some people you shouldn’t try this with.
I was sitting at my makeup mirror getting ready, I was talking with God a little bit, nothing deep just conversation. I hear the words…well let me just show you how the conversation went.
“God, I feel like I am not very effective sometimes.” What do you want me to do with this life I’m living?” “BE STILL…” “Be still and know that you are God?” I know that verse and it really… “NO, JUST BE STILL, NOTHING ELSE” “What are you saying God? “BE STILL.” “Oh you want me to be still?” I could almost hear God chuckling.
A lot of times in our lives, we get so caught up in doing things that we forget to have those quiet moments with God; moments when He speaks over our lives and gives us direction. These are the moments when we are refreshed by His spirit and washed by His word. God wanted time with me, but I wasn’t slowing down long enough to take it.
My immediate thoughts were “wow, I need to be still, and how cool that God met me in my room and talked to me. I need to write down this thought so I don’t forget it.” Later that evening it dawned on, I was so excited about God speaking that I didn’t do what He said. I have not been still, so this weekend, I am going to find a quiet place, perhaps in nature and “Be Still” and wait for God’s next instructions.
