People often don’t realize how powerful their words are. We say things without thought or question to how they can hurt or even help our situation.
I have always tried to really watch my words. Even though when I was little, my mom taught me the old saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” I just knew it wasn’t true. I felt words hurt me and I made a promise I would not sling them to hurt others if I could help it. I tried hard to teach my kids the same lesson. I have really great kids as a result of this.
When we use to drive in the car together, I would even try not to have road rage, I often made up my own silly words to describe the situation saying “speedy car” or telling the driver of the car “peace be with you” instead of yelling out my frustration with them. My kids will still tell me to this day that those things stuck with them.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” It says this in the Bible in Proverbs 18:21. It’s pretty incredible that a small muscle in our mouth can actually create life or can cause death. Have you ever thought about that?
I think it is so important to have the cognitive mindset that your words have power, no matter what situation you are dealing with. God designed it this way.
There is a lot of stuff happening right now in the world. People are slinging words daily. Don’t kill anyone in anger. A soft answer turns away wrath and its not worth killing someone, just to win an argument.
What are you doing with your words?
