Stuck In the Mud

Often we try to move in life without getting out of the messes we are in first. The path we are on doesn’t look difficult. We put one foot in front of the other and before we know it we are stuck. Our attempts to pull ourselves out fail, simply because there are barriers in the way to block us.

I was on a trip recently with my grandson and he wanted to walk in the river. He was wearing his crocs and even though I wondered if it was a good idea, I let him make the choice. He stepped into the water and his foot immediately was stuck in the mud. He was unable to move or pull himself out. He thought he could walk in the water just fine because the water looked crystal clear but below the surface, the mud and muck was waiting to pull him down, much like life does to us when we aren’t expecting it.

If I had not been walking beside him, to help him get “unstuck” he might have really had a hard time navigating a path to freedom.

We all have our moments when we get stuck. Some of us have them more often than others, but the beauty of life and learning is having someone to help you navigate when you are stuck. It can be a friend, a spouse, a co-worker or even a family member. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. When my grandson Parker was stuck, he said, “Nonie, help me!” I didn’t hesitate.

I helped him pull his feet out of the mud and together we got his shoe out. He learned a valuable lesson that day. We all need people sometimes to help us out of our situations we get in.
