Weeds

I spent the morning pulling weeds out of one of my flower beds. It was exhausting and to tell you the truth I was a bit overwhelmed. When they first started growing in the bed, I wasn’t sure if it was weeds or flowers. Some of them looked the same as some of the flowers I planted, and I was afraid to pull them up. So, I let them grow, and life got busier and crazier. Today when I went outside to work in the garden, it was as if the weeds had taken over the entire bed. The flowers were suffocating, and I knew in that moment I had made a grave mistake. I let the weeds trick me into thinking they were beautiful, when really, they were only a counterfeit flower.

I think a lot of things in life are like that. We often let stuff into our lives that look good to us but it really isn’t. It mimic things we think might be good for us, but really, it is trying to suffocate us and kill us. These things block the sunshine and as we are trying to do the things we are meant to do in life, these counterfeit “weeds” hold us back and never let us get to where we truly need to be.

What are the “weeds” in your life? What things have you let grow beside you, in you, or around you, that you know are bad for you, but you just continue to keep them in your life because you have been too busy to pull them out?

Do what I did, rip them out. Clean out your garden and give yourself a fresh start today.

You can’t really grow until you have enough room to feel the sunshine and your roots have ample room to spread out.

Don’t let weeds keep you from your purpose!
