I have a picture in my room that says, “beauty matters, surround yourself with it” and in little side notes it says flowers, color, love, and meaning. I realize these things may not mean beauty to you, but they mean a lot to me. As I write this, I can look up from my blog and see it. I would much rather be looking at a field of flowers, but that is for another day.
Why is it important to surround yourself with beautiful things? Because we have enough ugly in our lives. It threatens to devour us and wipe out our hope every day. When we try to engage in the things that bring beauty to us and make us smile, it is only when we bring life back into our bones and breath back into our lungs that we begin to live again. We weren’t made to hold back from living life to the full. Sometimes the daily grind of life can cause us to lose hope.
There is a scripture in the Bible that says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick but when desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12. When we lose our hope, we can become physically sick, but having our desires and hopes fulfilled can be life to our lives. What are you doing today that brings hope into your life? Are you surrounding yourself with the things that bring expectation to your life? Or are the things around you causing the hope to drain from you? Take an inventory today and make some adjustments.
Beauty matters! Surround yourself with it!
