I watched a yellow leaf.
As it slowly fluttered by.
Away from where it started,
leaving yesterday goodbye.
The wind, it seemed to take it,
On a journey far from here.
The beauty of it floating,
Made me stop to give a cheer.
Hurry little yellow leaf ,
You must get out while you can.
The harshness of this life ,
Is coming to crush you with its hand.
It didn’t heed my cry. ,
I was just a weary soul.
It was happy to be free.,
Said “freedom, this you do not know.”
I too was born to fly. ,
I never needed anything.
The happiness inside ,
Carried me on feathered wings.
“No one wants to see you fly.”
I learned the other day,
Jealousy and envy stab ,
And other hurtful words they say.
I can barely lift my head up,
Little yellow leaf,
Be careful when you’re flying,
I am overcome with grief.
I don’t think I can fly now,
Even if I wanted too.
I’ll just watch from here,
And live my dreams through you.
