The Rendezvous

I wanted to tell you about one of the most unusual restaurant location’s I have ever had the chance to experience. Found in a back alley of Memphis, Tennessee hidden by the buildings and hustle and bustle of city life, the Rendezvous is a piece of Memphis history that you don’t want to miss if you are visiting this great city.  If it wasn’t for the smoke and smell of Barbecue wafting up among the tall buildings drawing you in, you might miss this landmark that has been a part of Memphis since 1948 when Charlie Vergos realized his ribs were something special and he needed to share them with the world. Since then, people from all over the world come to here to wait in line, to go down in the basement of Rendezvous.

When my husband Bradd and I went to Memphis, they told us about Rendezvous and we knew we had to try it. We were not disappointed at all. We shared the full rack of ribs and it came with their special slaw and bowl of baked beans. The ribs were made with a special rub it was a dry seasoning rub mix and it was so delicious, I found myself licking my fingers over and over again wishing I had a bowl of it to keep dipping my ribs in. I did not need the Barbecue sauce provided on the table because the seasoning mix was enough. The succulent spices mix they put together form the perfect blend and it makes your mouth and it must work for everyone in town because they serve about 800 racks of ribs per night.

We normally have left overs if we get a full rack of ribs, but not this time, we ate the entire rack that night. I have to tell you about the baked beans also. They were the best I’ve tasted in my life. I’m not sure how they made them, but you just have to try them for yourself. I tasted the Cole slaw, but I’m not a fan of Cole slaw, so I honestly can’t judge that for you. Bradd doesn’t eat Cole slaw either but he made himself taste it too for this blog and he said it was the best he’s ever had. It’s a fiery mustard slaw, a recipe only made at The Rendezvous. My husband even tried the beans and liked those and he never eats beans.

When you are in Memphis, this is one place you have to put on your list of places to go. It is not only an amazing place to eat, but it is a place in our history with a great story.

We both gave this restaurant a 5 out of 5 stars.
