I passed a turtle going slow,
On my way, I said hello.
He said “hi, my name is Joe.”
I smiled at him and let him go.
I felt a cheetah going fast,
I tried to catch him as he passed.
Calling out I had to ask,
“Why are you running like from a blast?”
He smiled and said, “I can’t be last!”
I looked up to see an eagle soar,
I wondered the path he headed for.
He seemed like he was wanting more,
I quickly followed him to be sure.
To a clearing they seemed to go,
The eagle, the cheetah, and the turtle Joe.
I too approached the scene so fast,
I looked upon the shadow cast.
From two lovers standing toe to toe,
They share a love that lasts.
The animals told me so.
I stood on tiptoes so I could see,
The lovers who will last to eternity.
I can’t see them, I said to Joe,
“It’s only an image,” he told me so.
I walked to get a closer view,
Of these two lovers who found love true,
Wait…
That man and woman in the shadow cast,
It’s you and I; It’s our love that will last!
